Takehiro Tomiyasu signs for Arsenal

USM are delighted to announce that Takehiro Tomiyasu has completed his transfer from Bologna to Arsenal, signing a four-year deal.

Takehiro, who has 23 caps for Japan, joins the Premier League club after spending two full seasons playing in Serie A.

The versatile defender – able to play both right-back and centre-back – started his career with J-League side Avispa Fukuoka, where he came through the academy system.

After 54 appearances in Japan, Takehiro moved to Sint-Truiden in the Belgian Pro League, making 41 appearances and winning the club’s player of the year award during the 2018/19 season.

In the summer of 2019, Tomiyasu moved to Bologna at the age of just 20, becoming an integral part of the Italian outfit’s lineup. He leaves having made 63 appearances.

Arsenal technical director Edu said: “We’re delighted to have signed Takehiro. We’ve been watching him for a while now and we’re pleased that we have reached an agreement. He is an important addition to our squad.”

Mikel Arteta added: “Takehiro is a strong defender with good experience in Serie A and at international level. He’s a versatile defender with great defensive qualities, high technical ability and composure on the ball. He will be an important member of our squad. We look forward to Takehiro joining up with us when he returns from international duty.”

Everybody at USM wishes Takehiro the best of luck for the forthcoming campaign.
